The Construction - Water Entry Inspection Process

Elimination of Construction Defects -
Construction defects can only be eliminated through:
  • proper oversight
  • the conducting of inspections
  • and through the hiring of trades who are more interested in quality than quantity

  • Critical stage inspections must be conducted throughout the construction process so that defects are identified before they get incorporated into the construction.

    The inspection process must address;
  • Code compliance
  • construction defect,
  • moisture entry prevention and indoor air quality concerns

  • EnviroHome’s proprietary inspection includes over 300 critical points of construction to eliminate water/moisture entry and IAQ concerns during the construction process.

Follow-up inspections should be conducted to verify that one trade does not modify the work of a previous trade.

Leak tests should be performed to provide certifications and documentation.
  • Window leak tests should be performed prior to and after installation
  • Wall, door and roof component leak tests should be conducted routinely and in all cases where concerns are identified
  • Leak tests should be performed as an evaluation tool for the trades

  • Re-inspections should be conducted to verify that identified defects and concerns are corrected.

Design defects need to be identified to the architect so that they are eliminated rather than repeated at the next house.

The third party inspector needs to be part of the builder’s team.

Records should be kept to allow identification of defects that result from problematic trade contractors or design flaws.
